Intensive Throwing

The aim of this course is to enhance and advance one’s throwing techniques in the art of using the pottery wheel and this unique and specialised opportunity, will cater for those who are at the early stages of learning how to throw, as well as the more advanced, in order to improve on their skills.

Techniques such as wedging, centring, throwing, collaring and bellying would be an integral part of the session and thrown pieces can be cut and inspected to check for improvements, or alternatively could be kept for turning at the next session on the following week and professional guidance will be given at all stages.

The two day course is spread across 2 weeks, and will run for 3 hours each day, at £120 per person, however there is a possibility of attending 1 session at £60.

Places are limited, as there is keen interest in those wishing to learn or improve the techniques, so please email us as soon as possible in order to sign up and secure your places.

Short Summer Sessions

These sessions are scheduled on a day-to-day basis, with the options of attending 1pm – 3pm or 6pm – 9pm slots. They are for both beginners and enthusiasts alike, who would like to come and enjoy the opportunity to play with clay, as a versatile medium.

The sessions are not structured and are run on a casual and friendly basis, where those attending can learn and try out different techniques or skills, such as using the pottery wheel, hand building and sculptural techniques, as well as press moulds and slip decoration, and guidance will be given when necessary.

The cost of the sessions is £40 per person for the 3 hours and work completed on the day can be bisque/glazed fired and collected at later stage and there is a modest charge of £6 per kilo for finished items. Alternatively, uncompleted pieces can be worked on at other sessions or recycled, if wished.

All you will need to bring is an apron and some enthusiasm!

Note for current course students: you will not be able to substitute outstanding lessons with these sessions.

Taster/Drop-In Sessions

Our next Taster/Drop In Session will be held on Saturday 16th November, from 12 — 3pm at £40 per person.

This will be an opportunity for those who are new and would like to enjoy the benefits of using clay as a malleable and versatile medium for the first time, as well as for others who are already familiar with the material. The sessions are run in a relaxed and creative environment, where participants are encouraged to try out new techniques or improve on what they have already learned.

There will be a chance for those attending to try out throwing on the pottery wheel, hand building and sculptural techniques, as well as using press moulds and slip decoration. Completed work can be fired by The Harrow Potter’s Studio and collected at a later date; alternatively, work made on the day can also be stored and continued with at a later stage, before being glazed on subsequent drop in sessions, if desired.

Those attending will have the option for their work to be fired at a modest charge of £5 per kilo on completion/collection, with tools and materials being provided.

All that is required is some enthusiasm, however the sessions are quite popular and places are limited, so do let us know as soon as possible if you would like to attend by contacting us below:
