The word Raku in Japenese loosely translates as Contentment, Enjoyment, Pleasure. In this firing technique the work was taken out from the kiln when red-hot then immersed into various organic materials. This method has however been adapted in the West where the emphasis is now placed more on experimentation and creativity. The technique is quite specialised as the firing process takes just over one hour and produces fast, unpredictable and exiting results.
Dates: No available date at present
What you will need:
· Work already made and bisque fired (with Raku or Crank clay) before the event and you can bring either 5 medium to small or 3/4 large pieces but do have some extra work just in case.
· An apron or rough clothing with a comfortable footwear (preferable trainers) as it is a smoky & messy fun event!
The cost will include all materials and necessary equipment which will be provided, as well as refreshments throughout the day, there will be also be the customary £5 per kg charge for all fired items.

HALF-TERM CHILDREN'S POTTERY WORKSHOP
Dates to be confirmed
WHAT WE WILL DO:
This is a unique opportunity for children to play and create work with clay; they will be free to explore the possibilities of using this medium with an emphasis on bringing out their natural abilities. Guidance will be given by demonstrating some techniques whilst encouraging them to experiment and develop their own ideas.
WHAT WE WILL COVER:
Clay modelling, moulds, using textures and colours.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
As this will be a fun and messy event, please bring an apron or overall, and don’t forget to take a packed lunch!

NOTE: At all stages, Health & Safety will be an integral part of the workshops and Parents /Carers can attend for free when accompanying a child.
